The skin around the eyes is delicate and often shows signs of damage or aging early, so let’s dive into a few simple ways you can protect and nourish those sensitive areas.
Sunglasses
We want to limit excessive direct UV radiation to the eyes and sunglasses are an easy (and stylish!) way to do so. Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on our bodies, so it’s more at risk for sun damage. Sunglasses work to block out UV rays and help prevent photo and free radical damage to the thinner, more sensitive skin around the eye area.
Wearing sunglasses when you’re outside helps to protect the delicate skin around the eyes from aging and in turn may also help reduce wrinkles. The less squinting, the lower the chances of fine lines and crow’s feet!
Excess sun exposure can also cause collagen to break down quicker than it does during the normal aging process, so sunglasses can also help to prevent bags under your eyes.

Sunscreen
As we discussed above, the skin around your eyes is more sensitive than other areas of your face and body and is prone to show fine lines and wrinkles first. It only makes sense that sunscreen around your eyes is important and should be part of your sun care protection routine to keep things youthful and hydrated.
It is safe to put sunscreen around the eye area, but it’s important you choose high quality products and of course, avoid the eyes themselves. You also want to be mindful when applying sunscreen or eye cream. We recommend a gentle application with your ring finger and avoiding any rubbing or tugging.
Facial sunscreens have a lighter formulation which is much more suitable for around the eyes than a regular SPF. We would also recommend a mineral sunscreen made with zinc or titanium dioxide.
